Damage:
1. Prop Strike - the engine cut into the grass as it pitched forward after hitting the soft spot. It ultimately pitched forward so that the prop and spinner touched the grass. Fortunately it did not flip over. The Jabiru 2200 serial 1768 (late solid lifter) engine will need to be serviced at a Jabiru service centre. I received a quote from Jabiru USA that ranged from $5,000 to $10,000, depending on the condition of the crankshaft. A new prop (54x50) should be ordered from Sonex.
2. Landing Gear - The wheel pants were broken as the aircraft pitched forward. Being made of fibreglass, they are repairable, though new ones are available through Sonex. The tailwheel rod was bent when it fell back onto the ground
3. Fuselage - The left side of the forward fuselage was damaged when the left wing hit the ground. It pushed in the left side damaging the forward skin. The rear spar carry through was damaged due to the compressive force. I suspect a patch on the skin would repair the side, while new carry throughs would be necessary to repair that region. It looks like the tailwheel support is bent. I think it would be advisable to replace the support and bend the rod.
4. Wing - The inboard of the wing pushed into the fuselage. this resulted in some bending of the skin in the first bay area. This is in the area of the wing walk, and may be usable with the installation of a Van's wing seal. The bottom inboard skin the the first bay is buckled and may require a patch. I'd suggest replacing the rear wing attach. The left flap is bent and should be replaced. The wing tip from the spar forward is bent for 2 bays. I'd suggest replacing the last rib and wing tip, as well as patching in the forward wing skin on the last 2 rib bays.
Included:
Both the airplane and engine have flown 268.1 hours. The engine is equipped with the supplied Bing carburetor.
The aircraft is located near Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada.
